“January is the month for dreaming”

How do you feel about January? Some people think it is the Monday of a new year as it brings us all crashing back down to earth after the joys and excitement of the holidays. It can also be stressful as we may put some lofty expectations on ourselves. Here at the Coiffeteria, we find January to be a beautiful month!! The cold weather and the blanket of snow & ice makes us crave the warmth of our indoors and find cozy nooks and areas to cuddle up in. As we slow down from a busy couple of months, we find the joy & comfort in slowing down and breathing in this new fresh start. We encourage you to keep yourself balanced this month and savor the warm & slow touches that surround you!! 

Speaking of balance and new beginnings, read on for information on a new product, what the month of Veganuary means, a savory mushroom stroganoff recipe, and more exciting news from the Coiff!

Let’s start with VEGANUARY! What is this and what does this mean?

We are celebrating this month and all things Vegan!! It is Aveda’s 1 year anniversary of going 100% vegan with their products! Aveda’s mission is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. By going 100% vegan, this helps reduce man-made greenhouse gasses and water usage, help protect our lands from deforestation, and help preserve the life of animals all around the world.  By choosing vegan – whether in dietary or lifestyle, you can play a vital part in this mission. In celebration of Aveda’s 100% Vegan anniversary, and as we set our intentions & resolutions for 2022, we are introducing Meatless Mondays! Stay tuned to our Instagram for a vegan recipe every Monday! And be sure to bookmark our recipe page for all our favorite recipes, both vegan and non. UPDATE on prices

We are extremely & humbly grateful for every single one of you. Your support and loyalty; whether it be in buying products, booking appointments, or even just ‘liking’ our social media posts – you mean so much to us.The past couple of years, especially for a small & local business have been extremely difficult. It is your support, encouragement, and loyalty that has made us who we are and allows us to continue in these times! We are thankful to have a business that is still standing right now and we are honored to have you be a part of our story! It has been 5 years since we have raised our costs and effective February 1st, you will notice a small increase to our service prices. Each of our service providers have been continuing with their education in order to keep their talents cutting edge for you! This, along with much higher prices in products as well as continuing health/safety protocols which require higher usage of sterilization procedures, we decided that it is time to celebrate our staff and promote each one with a raise. If you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out. 

As a reminder of our cancellation policy: Coiffeteria Salon requests a credit card in order to reserve an appointment. In the event that you would need to cancel or reschedule a reserved appointment, we require 24 hours notice. If 24 hours notice is not given for a cancellation, the reserved credit card will be charged 50% of the service that was scheduled. (Medical and family emergencies are exceptions. If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, we may not be able to provide the entire service you have been scheduled for and a cancellation fee may apply)

COVID POLICY

With it being the cold & flu season, it is always better to be safe than not! So, in the most abundance of caution, we have decided as a staff to wear masks while in the salon. We are encouraging you, as our guests, to do the same. We are continuing with our health and safety measures and are ensuring that we are doing everything to keep your health (and our health!) our number one priority. Thank you for your understanding and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! If you feel sick, we kindly ask that you reschedule (and the cancellation policy will not be enforced!)! 

Vegan MUSHROOM stroganoff

As the days are cold and dark, who doesn’t crave the comfort of warm & rich foods? Stroganoff is a classic staple and a dish that pleases the entire family! As we celebrate Veganuary all month long (and be sure to stay tuned to our Instagram every Monday for a new recipe!), we are kicking the month off with this classic, delish dish – but vegan styled!

Ingredients:

  • 4 – 5 tablespoons vegan butter 
  • 1 small yellow onion (or large shallot), finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 – 2 lbs. mushrooms (pref. cremini), ends trimmed and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ¾ cup dry white wine
  • 1 ¼ cup vegetable broth
  • ½ – ¾ cup vegan sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, plus more to serve
  • salt + pepper, to taste
  • 12 – 16 oz. pasta (use your favorite – straight, small and/or curvy)

Directions:

Pasta: Cook the noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.

Stroganoff: Heat the butter in a medium pot over medium-high heat, add onion and saute until golden, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and mushrooms, cook for another 5 minutes, or until the mushrooms begin to sweat down a bit. Add the flour, stirring to fully incorporate so there are no white streaks, cook for 1 minute. Stir in the wine and broth, bring to a gentle boil, reduce heat to medium, cook for another 5 minutes or until the sauce has slightly thickened. Stir in the sour cream and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.Assemble: Add the pasta to the mushroom sauce, toss to combine. Add in a little pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce. Alternatively, add pasta to individual bowls and spoon the creamy sauce overtop.  Serves 4.
